My nervous twitch has started
to want the rest of me to calm down,
while cockroach sized dreams
sneak about in the dark
living on crumbs and dust,
only to scurry away in the morning,
leaving me a screeching alarm clock
to steady myself with,
as if waking up at the same time
everyday could mean more
than getting dressed, coffee,
and a job that fuels inflation
instead of a passion that used to be
bigger than car payments and rent.
